How Do I Update My BIOS?

Determinine Your Current BIOS Version
You can find your motherboard's BIOS version number on the POST screen. Restart your computer. As soon as you see the Biostar bootup splash screen, press TAB, this will reveal the POST screen (if you don't see the splash screen at all, it is okay. The version of BIOS you have most likely doesn't have the splash screen). Then immediately press PAUSE/BREAK key to suspend the boot process. You will see a screen similar to the one below:

In this example, the BIOS version is VIT0312F.

VIT = Model number
0312 = BIOS date
F = No splash screen

Updating BIOS
All modern Biostar motherboards feature the Flasher technology for easy BIOS updating. If you have a legacy board, please download the Award flashing utility and follow the instructions in the README.TXT file instead. The procedure below does not apply to legacy boards.

Most motherboards' BIOS files have the BIN extension. Some do not (for instance, NCD1208.BSP, NHA0302.BF, etc). Regardless of its extension, after downloading the BIOS file is ready to use as-is. You do not need to do any kind of decompression or extraction.

Download the BIOS file (in this case, VIT0312B.BIN) then save it to a floppy disk. Restart your computer. Enter the CMOS setup by pressing <DELETE> at the POST or Biostar splash screen. Make sure the disk is in your floppy drive, choose "Upgrade BIOS" from the CMOS Setup main menu. The Flasher utility will automatically detect and highlight the BIOS file (in this example, VIT0312B.BIN) on the next screen.

Make sure the BIOS file (in this case VIT0312B.BIN) is highlighted and press Enter. Answer Y when prompted "Are you sure to flash?". After the flashing is done, reset the computer and enter CMOS setup again. This time choose "Load Optimized Defaults" from the main menu. Finally, hit F10 to save and exit.

BIOS update is complete.

Legacy Motherboards
If you have a legacy motherboard which does not support the Flasher technology, please download the Award BIOS flashing utility and follow the instructions in the README.TXT file.
